President Donald Trump didn't pull any punches after his recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, voicing his frustration with the Eastern European leader.

Trump said he was “very angry” and “pissed off” when Putin had the audacity to criticize the credibility of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s leadership, as The Daily Mail reported.

According to his after-action report of the conversation, he added that the comments were “not going in the right location.”

Other reports

Putin reportedly asked for the formation of a transitional government in Ukraine on Friday, according to Agence France-Presse. This move could force Zelenskyy out of office.

“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” Trump said in an early-morning phone call with NBC News on Sunday.

“That would be that if you buy oil from Russia, you can’t do business in the United States,” Trump said. “There will be a 25% tariff on all oil, a 25- to 50-point tariff on all oil.”

In his criticism of Zelenskyy, Trump claimed that the Ukrainian leader was a dictator and claimed that he was "sick" of the way the war was being handled.

Shortly following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, President Joe Biden prohibited the importation of Russian oil. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the quantity of Russian crude oil and petroleum products imported to the United States has dropped drastically since that time.

Trump also declared "secondary tariffs" against Venezuela, stating on Truth Social that the tariffs would be imposed on countries that purchased crude and gas from the country.

According to an analysis conducted by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, China, Turkey, Brazil, and India are among the primary importers of Russian oil products.

If Trump applies the same definition of secondary tariffs as he did with Venezuela, they may be among the nations that experience the effects of secondary tariffs.

Administration goal

In the initial months of his second term, Trump had made the end of the conflict in Ukraine a top foreign policy objective, which resulted in meetings between U.S., Ukrainian, and Russian officials.

A partial and limited armistice was reached between Russia and Ukraine last week, which will allow safe navigation in the Black Sea and prevent attacks on each other's energy facilities.

“There will be a 25% tariff on oil and other products sold in the United States, secondary tariffs,” Trump said, saying the tariffs on Russia would come within a month without a ceasefire deal.

Trump said that Putin knows he is angry but said he has “a very good relationship with him” and “the anger dissipates quickly ... if he does the right thing. According to Trump, the two men are going to talk again this week.
