Those in the intelligence community are up in arms due to a batch of names that were released by the national intelligence chief.

According to some reports, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard might have shared the name of an “undercover” agent on social media this month.

However, there do seem to be some conflicting reports, and a senior intelligence official told The Daily Mail that the official didn’t unintentionally reveal anything.

The official said that the agent was a well-known, overt agent for the Central Intelligence Agency and was even scheduled to speak at a conference in a few months.

The Name Drop

The post in question has some of Gabbard’s detractors concerned, but according to the officials, dropping the names of 37 former intelligence officials who would have their security clearances stripped was an intentional decision.

The letter from Gabbard said that the officials had politicized their positions and failed to protect classified information.

Anonymous sources from Gabbard’s office said that her office failed to “meaningfully consult with the CIA before releasing the list,” but didn’t say that she regretted the decision.

From Inside Sources

One intelligence source told The Daily Mail that, “Julia Gurganus was an overt analyst, not covert operative, at the National Intelligence Council.”

“For years, she used her affiliation with the CIA and the Intelligence Community to write articles, speak on panels, join boards, etc.”

Regardless of the status of those involved, Gabbard was allegedly working at the direction of President Donald Trump, and said as much when she announced the change.

“Being entrusted with a security clearance is a privilege, not a right,” said Gabbard when she announced the change in the figures security clearances.

She said that the abuses were a violation of public trust and many of the individuals in question were guilty of committing “intentional egregious violations of tradecraft standards.”

She went on: “Our Intelligence Community must be committed to upholding the values and principles enshrined in the US Constitution and maintain a laser-like focus on our mission of ensuring the safety, security and freedom of the American people.”
