Veteran political journalists warn of 'desperate' reporters pitching stories to impact election outcome
Democrats and their allies across the liberal and mainstream media establishment are resorting to throwing hail marys in the form of hit pieces to impact the election, which is less than two weeks out.
That was proven recently by the failed attempt by the disgustingly liberal rag The Atlantic, which ran a story accusing former President Donald Trump of disparaging a slain Mexican-American Army private during his time in office, only to have the story refuted by many involved.
According to Fox News, veteran political journalist Mark Halperin warned that "desperate" actors are pitching ridiculous stories in an attempt to "pull a Comey" before voters hit the booths on Nov. 5, hoping to give Vice President Kamala Harris a boost.
During a recent interview, Halperin warned that there "all sorts of things being floated out there" to reporters in the hopes of discrediting the presidential candidates.
What's going on?
Halperin held nothing back as he described what's happening in the journalism world less than two weeks from Election Day.
Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic just happened to publish his story two weeks before the election with accusations against Donald Trump, some of which have been disputed for the first time, some of which have been disputed for quite some time. And the point I was making is there's all sorts of things being floated out there. Maybe Jeffrey Goldberg just happened to finish the story two weeks before the election," Halperin said
Halperin described one particular story being floated that otherwise could have dire consequences for Trump.
"I know of one story that's been pitched to a major newspaper and to me, and for all I know, to many others, that I don't believe is true. But if it's true, as I said yesterday, it would end Donald Trump's campaign, just as if the accusations, now thoroughly debunked, contributed by American intelligence to Russia about Tim Walz, if those were true, it would end his campaign."
Halperin added, "What we're seeing in the final days — is the point I was making — is, actors who want a certain outcome, are on social media and in pitches to reporters, and in the case of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, writing himself, are trying to affect the end of the race because they're so desperate to try to pull a Comey."
The veteran political journalist said he's not pursuing the alleged accusations regarding Donald Trump.
"I don't think it's true"
Halperin doubled down on the story that he believes could hypothetically "end" Trump's campaign, but insisted that he's not pursuing it.
"I'm not pursuing the story. I don't think it's true. People in Mar-a-Lago, calm down. All I'm saying is there are people out there pitching stuff and and if it were true, it would end his campaign," he said.
His warning comes as many still expect an "October surprise" about the Harris-Walz campaign.
Only time will tell if any additional surprises come out before Nov. 5.
