Vogue magazine is now facing criticism for its recent targeting of First Lady Melania Trump.

The Washington Examiner reports that the criticism comes after Vogue dismissed Trump's official White House photo.

Per the outlet:

Vogue’s review dismissed the first lady’s portrait in which she appears in black and white, dressed in a tuxedo, her blouse open, and standing in a South Lawn window with the Washington Monument behind her.

First, we'll take a look at what the magazine had to say, then we will look at the response that it is now facing.

"Freelance magician"

After the first lady released the photo, Vogue published a piece viciously criticizing it.

The magazine, in part, wrote:

The choice to wear a tuxedo — as opposed to a blazer or blouse — made Trump look more like a freelance magician than a public servant. It’s perhaps unsurprising that a woman who lived in a gold-encrusted penthouse, whose fame is so intertwined with a reality-television empire, would refuse to abandon theatrics — even when faced with 248 years of tradition.

That's right. According to Vogue, Trump looks like a "freelance magician."

But, there's more.

The magazine also claimed, "Indeed, Trump looked more like she was guest starring on an episode of The Apprentice than assuming the role of first lady of the United States."

It gets really old after a while

Many are now coming to the First Lady's defense, attacking Vogue for this obvious hit piece.

Among those to do so is Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella.

Calling for a "public apology" from Vogue, he said:

Trump is a humble individual dedicated to doing good on behalf of the American people. And still publications like Vogue find room for cheap shots and personal attacks. There is a clear double-standard, as other first ladies have not been treated this way. It seems they only hold women in high regard, when they agree with them, politically.

Others are taking things a step further and calling for people to cancel their subscription with Vogue. Bill White, one of Trump's friends, is among those making the call, saying, "We love and adore her. We have canceled all our subscriptions to Condé NASTY. I encourage everyone who loves America to do the same."

The First Lady, for her part, has kept quiet during all of this. She is, no doubt, a strong woman, and it is unlikely that she is going to let anything like this bother her.
