Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) might be experiencing a polling boost because of the Democratic National Convention, which was held in Chicago.

While many would assume that Chicago is a safe haven for Democrat votes, Fox News reported that there are plenty of voters in the reliably-blue Chicago who are ready to vote for former President Donald Trump.

Especially concerning for the Harris campaign are the Black voters in the city who quickly came to Trump's defense, noting that he's more relatable than Harris or Walz.

The anecdotal interviews with Black Chicago residents does seem to lend credence to polls that show a sharp uptick in Black voter support for Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance.

What was said?

It was fascinating to learn what many Chicago residents thought of Trump versus Harris, with many residents on the city's South Side noting that they're fans of Trump, and they were not afraid to say it.

"I’m a Trump fan," resident Lavar Williams told Fox News. "Everybody else I feel like they have a leash on them. Trump don’t have no leash on him."

He held nothing back as he explained that he believes life was better under Trump as opposed to what's happening now under President Joe Biden.

"I love Trump. I loved when he was in office. A lot of people say ‘Why do you say that?' because I’m Black. But still, I loved when Trump was in office," Williams said.

Williams also made an excellent point regarding Harris' campaign promises, noting that Harris has been in office for nearly four years, asking why it is that she's just now promising to fix everything.

"You was the vice president, so everything this man did, you was approving of, everything that’s going on now, you was approving of, so why am I going to vote for you?" Williams said. "I’m not going to vote for her. I’m just letting you know where I’m at. I'm a Trump fan. Trump 2024."

Others agree

Billy Johnson, a Navy veteran and Chicago homeowner said he wasn't sure who he would vote for, but offered praise for Trump's economic policies.

He also described VP Harris as "dangerous."

"Trump, he’s a genius when it comes down to finance, I gotta tell you. You can say anything you want. He was the first president who ever gave his opinion while sitting on the toilet through Twitter. That really won him a big favor with the American public, because you got a president that communicates openly with the public," Johnson said.

He said he also helped elect Trump because of his business background. Hopefully, that'll happen again.
