Congressman says Hunter Biden's conviction 'creates an opening' for Michelle Obama

For years, former First Lady Michelle Obama has repeatedly declared that she has no interest in running for her husband's old job.

However, one congressman recently suggested that Hunter Biden's recent conviction on federal gun charges could allow Mrs. Obama to make a move.

GOP: Lawmaker: Democrats "are desperate for another candidate"

According to The Hill, that prospect was raised by Tennessee Republican Rep. Andy Ogles during a Wednesday appearance on Fox Business's "Mornings with Maria."

Ogles argued that Hunter Biden's guilty verdict "creates an opening" as "the Biden family can say, 'Hey, we’re going to take care of our house, we’re going to take care of our son,' and then allow Michelle Obama to come in and run."

"Because again, Joe Biden can't win this election, and they know that they are desperate for another candidate," Ogles added.

Democratic pollster says Biden should not have run again

The conservative lawmaker went on to tell host Maria Bartiromo that prosecuting the president's son for lying on federal forms and possessing a firearm while addicted to drugs is "absolutely" a distraction from more serious wrongdoing within the Biden family.

"Look, obviously we always need to pursue justice. With that being said, the Biden crime family is guilty of taking tens of million dollars from foreign countries," Ogles declared.

"That should be the main topic of conversation. That’s what should be prosecuted and adjudicated in court," the congressman stressed.

Ogles is not alone in saying that Biden is a weak candidate, as Fox News reported earlier this week that Democratic pollster Nate Silver said the president's decision to seek another term was a mistake.

March poll showed Mrs. Obama losing to Trump by three points

He wrote in a social media post that "Democrats would have been better served if Biden had decided a year ago not to seek a second term."

Silver said this "would have allowed them to have some semblance of a primary process and give voters a say among the many popular Democrats across the country."

The pollster also highlighted the president's abysmal approval rating, which reached a new low of 37.4% on FiveThirtyEight's survey aggregator this past weekend.

Yet it is far from clear that Mrs. Obama would fare any better than Biden, with a poll commissioned by the Daily Mail in March showing the former first lady losing to Trump by three points.
