Gordon Ramsay, the hard-hitting, in-your-face celebrity chef, received an outpouring of support from his fans over the weekend after it was revealed that he was in a cycling accident.

According to the Daily Mail, the cycling accident was quite serious, and pictures posted to social media showed the extent of his injuries, which included ridiculously large bruises on his torso.

His daughter, and legions of fans wished him a speedy recovery in the wake of the accident, which left him beaten up.

Many of his celebrity friends also offered their support and well wishes after pictures of his injuries made the rounds across social media.

What happened?

Reports of Ramsay's crash indicated that he "nearly died" in the horrific accident. The accident reportedly happened in Connecticut.

Not much in the way of details was made available by Ramsay regarding the accident, but he used a social media post on Saturday to warn others to "wear a helmet," saying later that he credits his helmet with saving his life.

"With #FathersDay tomorrow I have very important message for all the dads out there…WEAR A HELMET! This week I had a really bad accident while riding my bike in Connecticut," Ramsay said.

Pictures of the celebrity chef raising up his shirt revealed extreme, large patches of bruising on his body, prompting shocked reactions across social media.

Offering thanks

Ramsay went on to thank the doctors and nurses who attended to his injuries in the hospital.

"I'm doing ok and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries but I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato," he said in the video.

The chef added, "I'm thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out, but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. Have a great Father's Day and be safe Gx."

"Chef -- INCREDIBLE advice.. but don't EVER scare us like this again. That looks terribly painful and my family and I are sending prayers for a speedy, full recovery. But, we've decided no more cycling for you. Thanks!"
