Police report: Fetterman was driving "well over" the speed limit before Sunday crash
Freshman Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman recently made headlines for being involved in a car crash this past weekend.
A police report obtained by USA Today alleges that the senator was guilty of endangering his wife and others by driving "at a high rate of speed."
Fetterman was traveling at "well over the posted speed limit"
Compiled by the Maryland State Police, it states that Fetterman and his wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, were traveling at "well over the posted speed limit" on I-70 in a Chevrolet Traverse.
Their vehicle is said to have rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala at around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday in northwest Maryland near the I-68 exit.
The police report noted that neither Fetterman nor the other driver, a 62-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, were not tested for alcohol or substance use. No citations were issued at the time of the crash but an investigation remains ongoing.
The woman and Fetterman were both transported via ambulance to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia. A spokesperson for the senator explained that he was discharged after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
"On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were involved in a car accident with another driver," the spokesperson said in a statement provided to the Washington Examiner.
Senator and wife thank supporters
"Out of an abundance of caution, they were evaluated at a local hospital. John was treated for a bruised shoulder, and they were discharged that afternoon. They are doing well and happy to be back in Braddock," the spokesperson noted.
For his part, Fetterman and his wife released a video on social media in which they thanked supporters for expressing concern.
You might have heard G and I were in a car accident yesterday. Thank you all for the well wishes.

Fetterman has been cited twice for driving well over the limit
The Washington Post reported on Thursday that Fetterman has received two tickets for driving at least 24 miles per hour over the speed limit.
One incident occurred in 2016 while the other happened this past March, when the senator was caught exceeding the limit by 34 miles per hour.
What's more, the newspaper cited aides as saying that Fetterman has sent text messages and video chatted with people while behind the wheel, something which has prompted "fears about riding with him."
