When Alvin Bragg finished his prosecution of Donald Trump and got the guilty verdict, he made a statement telling everyone that no one was above the law. He said, "While this defendant may be unlike any other in American history, we arrived at this trial, and ultimately today at this verdict, in the same manner as every other case that comes through the courtroom doors: by following the facts and the law and doing so without fear or favor."

Reality is proving the opposite to be true. Bragg pursued Trump with all the vigor you'd expect from an elected prosecutor seeking to make his name with a prominent defendant. When others are caught on video violating the law and representing leftist causes, a different set of standards gets used.

The Washington Free Beacon reports that the Manhattan district attorney's office, led by Alvin Bragg, dismissed trespassing charges against 30 Columbia University protesters arrested for occupying a campus building. The decision was made due to a "lack of evidence, the absence of criminal history among the defendants, and the anticipation of internal discipline by Columbia University."

The protesters were part of a larger group of 46 individuals arrested and charged for occupying Hamilton Hall on April 30. The occupation involved blocking the building's entry with tables, chairs, and a human chain while hoisting an "intifada" banner. Many protesters masked their faces and covered surveillance cameras, complicating evidence collection.

The Washington Free Beacon observed proceedings at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, which drew a large number of supporters and faculty members. The public defender referenced "Hind's Hall," the protest name for Hamilton Hall, and a faculty group had encouraged attendance at the court.

Following the dismissal of charges, the protesters held a press conference outside the courthouse. A masked speaker, identified as "Mickey Mouse," spoke against various forms of oppression, explicitly supported Palestine, and promoted vulgar antisemitic propaganda.

In Alvin Bragg's world, these are very fine people. When discussing "lack of evidence, " let's be clear: these events are on video. They filmed events, and others on the scene filmed the entire gathering. There's no question about what happened, who was involved, or what happened.

This is the same Columbia University that got busted just last week after photos of text messages were found of administrators dismissing antisemitism running rampant on campus and in these camps. "Columbia's top officials responded with mockery and vitriol, dismissing claims of antisemitism and suggesting, in Patashnick's words, that Jewish figures on campus were exploiting the moment for "fundraising potential."

If you're Jewish in New York, Alvin Bragg will free the people locking down campuses, shouting antisemitic slogans, vandalizing buildings, and threatening Jews. These people are going free - they are above the law.

When conservatives point to the problems of lawfare on the left, these are the kinds of examples that come up. It's a signal when the same prosecutor makes examples of his partisan opposition but does little to his own party.

The rule of law is a set thing. You either follow it, or you don't. It's popular at the moment for Democrats to point out that Hunter Biden was also convicted, which proves that the law works.

That's only partially true. Hunter Biden was set to receive a sweetheart deal from the Department of Justice that would have lessened the penalties Hunter faced across the gun and tax case charges. The deal was so unusual that the judge demanded the prosecutors explain why she should be a rubber stamp for a wildly unusual document. That blowup forced federal prosecutors to proceed with a trial, something they tried to avoid.

The New York Times reported that prosecutors planned on not prosecuting Hunter Biden at all. That changed when "a pair of I.R.S. officials on the case accused the Justice Department of hamstringing the investigation. Mr. Weiss suddenly demanded that Mr. Biden plead guilty to committing tax offenses."

In other words, it took whistleblowers coming forward to force the President's Department of Justice to prosecute his own son. It then took a judge knocking down an unusual plea deal from prosecutors to push things forward again. Once a jury saw the clear evidence, Hunter Biden was found guilty.

No one believes Biden won't pardon his son. And all the partisan reasoning that goes into that case went into Alvin Bragg's decision to go after Trump. And now we're watching Bragg release far-left activists who chanted, cheered, and followed the lead of Hamas.
