Taylor Wily, the actor known for his role in Hawaii 5-0, among other things, has died at the age of 56. 

CBS News, on Saturday, reported that Wily's death was confirmed by his attorney.

"Hawaii 5-0 actor Taylor Wily has died, his entertainment attorney confirmed to CBS News. He was 56 years old," the outlet reported.

It added, "A cause of death was not shared. Local news outlet KITV reported that Wily died in Hurricane, Utah."

Who was Taylor Wily?

As mentioned at the outset, Wily, more than anything else, is known for his role on Hawaii Five-0. 

On the CBS drama, according to the New York Post, he played the role of Kamekona for a period of 10 years, from 2010 to 2020. This included appearances in 171 episodes.

This, however, is not all that Wily is known for, in terms of acting. The Post reports, "Beyond Hawaii 5-0, Wily is also known for appearing in the 2008 comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall and reprising his role as Kameokona in Magnum P.I. and MacGyver."

Fans may also be surprised to learn that Wily was not always an actor. In fact, before acting, he was a sumo wrestler.

According to the Post, "Before his acting career, Wily achieved success as a sumo wrestler under the name 'Takamishu' in Japan. He won his first 14 matches before becoming the first foreign-born wrestler to win the championship in the third-highest makushita division, according to TV Insider."

"Devastated" and "Heartbroken"

Peter Lenkov, the executive producer of Hawaii Five-0 has released multiple statements on his Instagram account expressing his grief at the news of Wily's passing.

"I am devastated. Heartbroken. I’ll post some detailed feelings later. Just too hard right now," he wrote in one post that included a picture of himself and Wily.

Plenkov then followed this message up with another that included a slideshow of photographs of Wily.

The post included the following caption:

T, as I told you many times, I fell in love with you at the first audition. You came in with a towel on your head mopping up sweat, and I was smitten. You charmed me into making you a regular… on the show… and in my life. You were family. And I will miss you every day, brother. PS: when we spoke last week, we laughed at how right you were from Day 1. Five-0 was our dream job. And I was so lucky we got to share that magic together.

Then, in one final message, Plenkov wrote this, "I’ve been hearing from thousands of people whose lives Taylor touched. Not surprised one bit. If you met him, he was immediately your friend."
