South Carolinians were shocked last week when Republican Rep. Joe Wilson had to be hospitalized after experiencing stroke-like symptoms at an event.

Despite this, the 77-year-old conservative lawmaker has since revealed that he will soon be returning to Capitol Hill. 

Congressman thanks doctors and House chaplain for coming to his aid

In a short clip posted to YouTube, Wilson recalled how he was "providentially" with House Chaplain Margaret Kibben and a pair of heart surgeons when he collapsed on September 10.

Wilson explained that Kibben along with the two physicians immediately began rendering aid, after which he was brought to George Washington University Hospital and given a pacemaker.

Congressman Joe Wilson has received a pacemaker and he is expected to be discharged from the hospital in a matter of days. He is recovering quickly.

"With a pacemaker implant, issues have now been resolved for my public service," Wilson noted while making a point of thanking both Republican and Democrat colleagues for voicing their support.

Ukrainian ambassador touts importance of CPR after seeing Wilson collapse

The Hill reported that Wilson's health scare took place as he was attending a celebration of Ukraine's Independence Day in Washington, D.C.

Ukrainian ambassador Oksana Markarova witnessed the congressman receiving CPR, a fact which she later commented on.

"It reminds me that we all have to learn how to do CPR, we in Ukraine, now, unfortunately know it because we have to do it on a daily basis, unfortunately, but even in other countries we have to be more resilient," The Hill quoted her as saying.

The diplomat went on to add that she and other members of the Ukrainian embassy staff will "keep praying that our friend will be fine and wish speedy recovery to our friend."

Wilson cites House report on Biden's administration's pullout from Afghanistan

Prior to his collapse, Wilson had highlighted a report released the previous day by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul.

The document laid out failures by the Biden administration prior to and during the military withdrawal from Afghanistan three years ago.

"The incompetence of the Biden-Harris administration surrender from Afghanistan in 2021 resulted in the murder of 13 U.S. service members at the hands of terrorists," Wilson wrote in a social media post.

"The report from [the House Foreign Affairs Committee majority] gets to the truth and finally holds the administration accountable," Wilson further asserted.
