Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made headlines last week when she was elected to her twentieth term on Capitol Hill.

Although Pelosi no longer holds a leadership position within the Democratic Caucus, some observers believe she will nevertheless be a rogue force in Washington.

Fellow members of Congress say Pelosi may seek yet another term in office

Among them is Samantha-Jo Roth, who recently pointed to a report published by the San Francisco Chronicle last weekend.

It stated that during a House Democratic Caucus call held shortly after Election Day, Pelosi told her colleagues they should resurrect a group that previously fought President-elect Donald Trump over the Affordable Care Act.

What's more, the piece also cited two Democratic House members who spoke on the condition of anonymity, with both individuals stating that Trump's victory may convince Pelosi to run at least once more.

This possibility appears to be supported by a statement of candidacy Pelosi filed with the Federal Election Commission late this week.

Pelosi still plays an "outsized role" despite no longer being speaker

While Pelosi refused to give any indication as to what her plans for 2026 are, the 84-year-old did tell the New York Times last week that she will be an active force in opposing Trump.

"I'm here to fight the fight so that we win in the next election. I must have thought I had the last term over and over again, but as fate would have it, the mission called," she declared.

Roth previously noted in an August article that Pelosi continues to play an "outsized role" even after having relinquished her speakership.

That assessment was echoed by Casey Burgat who serves as director of the legislative affairs program at George Washington University.

Expert claims Pelosi remains a "power player" who is "calling a lot of the shots"

"She is a full-on power player even if she doesn’t have the title of speaker, majority leader, minority leader next to her name — that's the difference," Burgat was quoted as saying.

Burgat stressed that Pelosi "is cognizant" of her successor, current House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries as well as "the need for him to step up."

He went on to insist that the California Democrat is still "calling a lot of the shots" within her party even though she isn't always "in front of the camera."
