Ocasio-Cortez's election claim leaves MSNBC stunner with
Far-left U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) recently left MSNBC stunned with a claim that she made about the 2024 presidential election.
The Daily Mail reports that what shocked the network was the congresswoman's explanation for why it is that people who voted for her also voted for President-Elect Donald Trump.
It may be hard to believe - considering the fact that Ocasio-Cortez and Trump occupy significantly different regions of the political spectrum - but this is indeed a fact: some people who voted for Trump also voted for Ocasio-Cortez.
This seeming paradox has left many wondering why - including Ocasio-Cortez.
Background
Ocasio-Cortez was so perplexed by the situation that she went on social media and asked people who voted for both her and Trump to, essentially, explain themselves.
The New York Post reports:
The Bronx and Queens Democrat, who was easily re-elected Tuesday, quizzed her 8 million Instagram followers in hopes of learning more about Dem Vice President Kamala Harris’ landslide loss to the Republican former president, which stunned pollsters and Democratic Party bosses alike.
The congresswoman revealed some of the answers that she received from voters who claimed to have voted for both her and Trump.
One, for example, said, "It’s really simple… trump and you care for the working class." Another said, "[W]anted change so I went with Trump and blue for the rest of the ballot to put some brakes."
Yet another said, "Voted Trump, but I like you & Bernie. I don’t trust either party establishment politicians."
Ocasio-Cortez goes on MSNBC
The congresswoman recently went on MSNBC, where she explained to host Joy Reid why it is that people who voted for her also voted for Trump.
There, she said:
When it comes to people who split their ticket, I think a lot of people cited several different things. One, there is universal frustration in this country, much of it I actually think justified, that is raging at a political establishment that centers corporate interests, billionaires and puts their needs ahead of the needs of working Americans.
Reid, though, was not having it. She asked why people, then, voted for Trump, saying, "It makes no sense."
Ocasio-Cortez was not really sure about this, but she suggested Trump's fighting spirit - the fact that he fights for the American people - probably has something to do with it.
There are not many things that Ocasio-Cortez is right about, but this just might be one of them.
