Majority of Americans reject Hunter Biden pardon: poll

Hunter Biden might be getting away with his crimes scot-free, but he's still guilty in the eyes of America.

The vast majority of Americans reject Joe Biden's unprecedented and corrupt pardon of his son - with many likening Biden's act to the Watergate scandal and Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky, according to a poll.

The strong public backlash suggests that Biden has damaged his own legacy, which was already tarnished by his poor performance as president.

Biden pardon rejected

The pardon has sent Biden's approval rating tumbling to 37%, the poll from J.L. Partners found. 52% of registered voters said Biden did the wrong thing, and only 29% said they agreed with his decision.

Less than half of Democrats approved (47%), despite the intense polarization of American politics.

More than half (54%) said Biden's pardon is at least as damaging as President-elect Trump's criminal conviction, and about half said Biden's move was as damaging as the Watergate scandal that led to the downfall of President Nixon and the Monica Lewinsky affair that tarnished President Clinton.

"This poll shows that in pardoning his son Joe Biden has driven a stake through his own reputation," said James Johnson, cofounder of J.L. Partners.

Hunter Biden was found guilty on federal gun charges in June, and he later pled guilty to tax evasion, avoiding a second trial that would have delved into his family's overseas business dealings.

Despite repeated pledges to let the system prevail, Biden pardoned his son over Thanksgiving weekend, claiming he was the target of weaponized justice.

Out for himself

Hunter's blanket, 10-year pardon begins retroactively in January 2014, when he started his lucrative board position at Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian energy company, while his father was vice president.

Biden had long denied any knowledge of his son's business dealings before it was proven that Biden met with Hunter's associates at Burisma.

By breaking his pardon pledge, Biden has shown once again that he is a liar who is out for himself - the country be damned.

Attempts to justify the pardon as the act of a loving father are unlikely to move ordinary Americans who lack the Biden family's powerful connections, which they flagrantly exploited to enrich themselves - and then overturn the justice system when it held a Biden accountable for once.

Joe Biden has managed to make everyone mad with his selfish decision, with many Democrats fretting he just boosted Trump's claims about the weaponization of justice - while giving Trump political cover to pursue controversial pardons of his own.
