Ryan Routh made headlines earlier this year when the 58-year-old was arrested for the attempted assassination of President-elect Donald Trump.

Yet in a major twist, Routh was back in the news once again this week after he was hit with yet another attempted murder charge.

New charges concern a car accident which almost killed a young girl

According to the Washington Examiner, the new charge is a result of a car accident that occurred when law enforcement authorities were forced to shut down traffic after Routh fled.

That incident nearly led to the death of a young girl, something which was commented on by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody.

"As a result of that, we felt compelled to seek justice on her behalf and her family that will never be the same as they cope with her injuries," Moody was quoted as saying in a statement on Tuesday.

Although Routh's alleged crime took place in September, Moody explained that he is only now being charged due to a "lack of cooperation and support" from federal officials.

Florida sued U.S. attorney general for blocking access to evidence

Specifically, Moody asserted that state investigators were denied access to the crime scene, along with evidence and details from witness interviews.

The Examiner noted that Florida ultimately filed a lawsuit against U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland over what it considered to be obstruction.

What's more, Moody also complained that the Department of Justice (DOJ) attempted to prevent her office from laying additional charges against Routh.

"It was made known that they intended to shut down our investigation and invoke federal jurisdiction in doing so," the state attorney general insisted.

Governor: "The tide will turn on January 20th"

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis also addressed the matter in a social media post on Wednesday, writing that "the feds have stonewalled Florida’s investigation of the Trump assassination attempt at every turn."

"The tide will turn on January 20th and we fully expect that the federal roadblocks will be removed," Florida's governor predicted.

"The would-be assassin needs to face the full force of justice and the people deserve the truth about the defendant’s history, motivations and plan," DeSantis went on to declare.

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
