Trump's DEA boss wants new 'army of good to fight evil'
President Donald Trump's new leader of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is calling for an "army of good" to take down Mexican drug carters.
Derek Maltz said as much during a recent interview with the New York Post.
This would certainly be right in line with Trump's southern border agenda.
He, of course, has vowed to do what he can to fix the southern border crisis, and there is no doubt that Mexican cartels are a significant part of the problem.
We need an "army of good"
In the interview, Maltz called for the drug cartels to be held accountable.
He said:
I care about holding them accountable for destroying our future generations. They have to be held accountable. We can’t just continue to arrest them in America, create indictments, do extraditions, because that’s not good enough. We need a sense of urgency. And in my view, we have to use all of the American patriots that have the full capabilities and parties to decimate our enemies.
Maltz went on to explain that he believe that America and Mexico ought to team up on this issue.
But, he also argue that resources ought to come from other parts of the world as well.
He said:
We’ve watched the growth of the cartels using advance technology, advance weapons system. They built up an army down there, and to be honest, in the past, we were not getting the adequate cooperation from our partners in Mexico. Now, to make it clear, I am a huge partnership builder. I want to build maximum partnerships. So the reality is we have to build partnerships with Mexico, in my view. We are going to work together, and we’re going to make sure that the accountability is put in place.
Background
Trump, too, wants to go after Mexican drug cartels.
One of the first moves that Trump made as president was to designate these cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
The White House wrote:
The Cartels have engaged in a campaign of violence and terror throughout the Western Hemisphere that has not only destabilized countries with significant importance for our national interests but also flooded the United States with deadly drugs, violent criminals, and vicious gangs.
The White House went on to explain that "The Cartels’ activities threaten the safety of the American people, the security of the United States, and the stability of the international order in the Western Hemisphere."
Trump said that this is "unacceptable."
