President Donald Trump has announced that he will stop all financing to South Africa and has begun an investigation into the country's policies.

He claims that a "massive" violation of human rights against white people is occurring due to a new law that allows the government to take land from private owners, as The New York Post reported.

On Sunday, Trump issued a promise on his Truth Social platform to cease all future financing, stating, "South Africa is confiscating land, and treating certain classes of people VERY BADLY."

Trump stated that there is a "massive Human Rights VIOLATION, at a minimum, is happening for all to see" in South Africa, but he did not provide any facts or proof to support his claim.

More From Trump

“The United States won’t stand for it, we will act,” Trump added. “Also, I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed!”

On Monday, the South African government stated that the Trump administration needs to have a better grasp of the new law, which is intended to assist address the consequences of decades of white minority rule in South Africa under the apartheid era, which ended in 1994.

According to a declaration made by Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, "the South African government has not confiscated any land."

Since the measure was signed into law, there has been no major action taken.

Apartheid's Impact

The Black majority of South Africa was forcibly relocated from their homes and given land in the apartheid era.

For a long time, people have argued and thought about the law as a way to fix past injustices, as the government sees it.

Elon Musk, a key ally of Trump's, hails from South Africa and has also taken aim at Ramaphosa's administration, stating in 2023 that it was permitting a "genocide" of white farmers and accusing it of being anti-white.

While there have been reports of white farmers being murdered in South Africa, experts there argue that this is more indicative of the country's extremely high rates of violent crime generally, which are among the worst in the world.

Trump's Main Concern

Trump said to reporters on Sunday, “they’re taking away land, they’re confiscating land and actually they’re doing things that are perhaps far worse than that.”

Neither the policy in question nor the individuals allegedly abused were specified by Trump. His remarks, however, seemed to be a response to last month's passage of a land law in South Africa, which grants the state the authority to purchase private property for public use.
