The administration of President Donald Trump is denying that any "quid pro quo" has taken place between the administration and New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D).

Tom Homan denied the accusation over the weekend, according to the New York Post

Homman, in fact, referred to the idea as a "ridiculous" one.

First, we'll get you up to speed on the charges, and then we will look at Homan's typical no-nonsense response.

Background:

The Trump administration - specifically the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) - has been attempting to get the charges dropped that have been brought against Adams by the Biden administration.

Adams has been accused of such things as bribery, wire fraud, and soliciting illegal campaign contributions, according to The Hill.

Whether Adams is actually guilty of these things is unclear, but Trump has made it clear that he believes that Adams was treated unfairly by the Biden administration. The claim is that the Biden administration may have weaponized the legal system against Adams because it did not like the fact that Adams was not toeing the line on the illegal immigration issue.

How much truth there is to this is unclear, but Trump and his administration clearly believes that there is some truth to it, which is why they have moved to drop the charges.

At the same time, it appears that Adams, a Democrat, has agreed to work with Trump on the illegal immigration issue, which stands in start contrast to most other major Democratic politician. This is how the "quid pro quo" allegations have come about.

Homan ends it

According to Homan, the idea that there is any "quid pro quo" between the Trump administration and Adams is "ridiculous."

Trump's border czar said as much during an appearance, over the weekend, on CNN's State of the Union. It was there that he was asked about the situation by a CNN host.

Homan said:

I think that’s ridiculous. Me and Mayor Adams met a couple of months ago. …We had the same discussion — we talked about getting a presence in Rikers Island. We had that a couple [of] months ago, long before this other discussion.

Indeed, this is one of the big moves that Adams is making for the Trump administration, namely, reopening the Rikers Island prison to the federal government.

This move is expected to facilitate the Trump administration's ability to get the illegal immigration crisis under control.
