The Democrat House Progressive Caucus has seen a second member resign over the issue of support for Israel in its efforts to fight back against Hamas terrorists after it was attacked on October 7.

Rep. Ritchie Torres (NY) is the latest defection after Rep. Lois Frankel (FL) left the coalition in November.

Torres has supported Israel's right to fight back against Hamas in Gaza, and voted to condemn sexual violence by the terrorists against Israeli women during the attack.

CNN's Dana Bash asked Torres in an interview in December why it was so difficult for progressives to "unequivocally call out the barbaric sexual violence against Israeli women" after several squad members refused to condemn Hamas in any way.

"Double standard"

"Look, there’s often been a double standard against Israel when it comes to condemning the sheer butchery and barbarism of Hamas," Torres said.

"Public officials have a moral obligation to speak with clarity rather than caveats. And I found it deeply troubling, for example, that the U.N. Women, the so-called women’s rights arm of the United Nations, went 50 days without commenting on or condemning the sexual atrocities that Hamas perpetrated against Israeli women. For me, this is not about politics. This is about decency. It is indecent to deny or downplay or ‘both sides’ the rape and sexual violence against Israeli women on Oct. 7."

Torres voted with 21 other Democrats in November to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for her anti-Israel comments.

Doesn't make sense

Torres also pointed out that squad members like Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN) who voted against the Iron Dome missile defense system, which protects Israelis against incessant rocket attacks, are actually exposing Palestinians to the attacks along with Israelis.

"Were it not for Iron Dome interceptions, there would be far more dead Israelis – far more, by orders of magnitude," he told Bash. "So the policy position that she has taken would have led to more dead Israelis and more dead Palestinians."

You can see why Torres may not be getting along with the caucus when you hear his comments.

That's one of the biggest problems with Hamas and its sympathizers--they don't generally care whether Palestinians die as long as Israelis do.

Tlaib and Omar have Palestinian or Middle Eastern heritage, which explains why they sympathize as much as they do with Hamas or at least the people of Gaza.

Unfortunately, their sympathies are blinding them to the reality of the attack on Israel and Hamas's part in it.
