President Joe Biden wasted no time in endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris after he ended his reelection bid earlier this year.

However, a new report suggests that Biden may be acting behind the scenes to quietly remove support from his would-be successor.

Evidence of conflict between Biden and Harris

In an article published this past weekend, Axios national political correspondent Alex Thompson wrote that "the relationship between Kamala Harris' team and Joe Biden's White House has been increasingly fraught."

Thompson pointed to how last Friday, Biden diverted coverage from a campaign event Harris was holding Michigan by delivering "an impromptu press conference in the White House briefing room."

In another incident, Biden praised Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis for being "gracious" and "cooperative" in coordinating the response to Hurricane Milton.

Those words of encouragement came despite Harris having previously called DeSantis "irresponsible" and "selfish" for allegedly refusing to take her calls.

Biden denies rift while speaking at rally in Pennsylvania

"The White House is lacking someone in the room thinking first and foremost about how things would affect the campaign," Thompson quoted one source as saying.

Thompson went on to cite other sources as saying there have been "squabbles about whether Biden's main surrogates on television would continue in those roles or if new faces would emerge."

Meanwhile, Fox News reported that the president dismissed talk of discord with his vice president while speaking at an event in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

"Kamala and I have specific plans to bring down the cost of housing, child care, elder care and more," the president told supporters.

"Every president has to cut their own path. That's what I did. I was loyal to Barack Obama, but I cut my own path as president. That's what Kamala is going to do. She's been loyal so far, but she's going to cut her own path," he stressed.

White House press secretary says Biden is "passing the torch"

Fox News noted that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre pushed a similar message during a briefing on Tuesday.

She insisted that Biden "has been really clear about passing the torch" and has regarded "Vice President Harris as a leader from day one."

"He's incredibly proud of her. He has supported her from day one. He has said many times the best decision that he made in 2020 was asking her to be his running mate," Jean-Pierre declared.
