Dem candidate Lucas Kunce injures reporter during firing range incident, calls cops 1 day later
Democratic Senate candidate Lucas Kunce from Missouri went viral last week for all the wrong reasons after a mishap at a makeshift firing range where he was shooting AR-15-style rifles with former Congressman Adam Kinzinger.
During the photo op, where Kunce, a former Marine, attempted to appear as if he's a regular guy who goes shooting on the weekend with his buddies, was firing at steel targets in close proximity, and as anyone could have predicted, someone got hurt.
One of the reporters covering the shooting range event was struck in the arm with shrapnel from a bullet that fragmented after impact.
According to the New York Post, Kunce didn't even notify law enforcement of the incident until the next day.
What's going on?
KHSB-TV reporter Ryan Gamboa was struck in the arm after one of the rounds fragmented after impacting the steel targets, which many say were far too close for AR-15 target practice.
He later sought treatment at a local hospital but quickly learned that the fragment was still lodged in his arm.
"At the hospital he was advised there was a small piece of metal under his skin and the hospital staff advised they were going to leave it [sic] there,” the report states. “The hospital staff cleaned the wound further and bandaged the wound up further," the report noted.
Curiously, Kunce didn't report the incident until the next day, which many thought was strange.
The Post noted:
Kunce left the firing range at 4:15 p.m. CDT and didn’t call the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office to report the incident until Oct. 23.
Kunce and Kinzinger were absolutely torched across social media when photos of the shooting range went viral, as users spotted a number of glaring safety issues that could have led to disaster.
Social media reacts
Users across social media held nothing back in their commentary on the situation.
"You know, there are some people who just shouldn't be around firearms. Ever. And shockingly, they all seem to be friendly to the Left," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "Dems should never be allowed on a gun range."
Kunce and Kinzinger should be thanking their lucky stars that nobody else was seriously injured during the event.
