Many Republicans have long harbored suspicions that FBI personnel engaged in misconduct while investigating the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

If those suspicions are accurate then, a new undertaking could leak to the removal of bad actors at America's top law enforcement agency.

FBI agents and employees told to complete a questionnaire

According to the Daily Caller, the Department of Justice (DOJ) asked FBI agents and employees to participate in a survey this past weekend.

The survey was made public on Sunday by FBI whistleblower Garret O’Boyle, who posted screenshots of the survey question to social media.

One question asked, "Were you a supervisor when you participated in investigation(s) or prosecution(s) of events that occurred at or near the US Capitol on January 6, 2021?” a screenshot reads.

Another read, "What was your role in the investigation(s) or prosecution(s) relating to events that occurred at or near the US Capitol on January 6, 2021?" Respondents were given a list of multiple choice answers to select from.

Group which represents FBI agents has provided guidance

The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) is a non-union organization which represents FBI agents, and NBC News reported that it gave survey recipients advice on how to respond.

"We have confirmed that this is accurate and we anticipate a large majority of our members will receive this," FBIAA was quoted as saying in a statement.

"At this point in time, we recommend deferring to your division leadership on how to handle these surveys," the group went on to add.

For one of the survey questions, FBI agents were advised to write, "I have been told I am ‘required to respond’ to this survey, without being afforded appropriate time to research my answers, speak with others, speak with counsel or other representation."

FBI issues statement regarding survey

For its part, the FBI provided a statement of its own to the Daily Caller, asserting, "The FBI is currently working to respond to a request for information from the Acting Deputy Attorney General about current and former FBI personnel assigned to certain investigations or prosecutions, including the events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021."

"The FBI will work within the law and policy to respond to official requests for information from the Department of Justice," it stressed.

The statement concluded by saying, "To be clear, the FBI does not view anyone’s identification on one of these lists as an indicator of misconduct."
