Ex-Trump press secretary Stephanie Grisham says she saw him show people classified documents

Former press secretary to Donald Trump Stephanie Grisham said on MSNBC on Sunday that she saw the former president show classified documents to people at Mar-A-Lago when asked if she thought it was believable that the accusations against him are true.

"The short answer is yes," Grisham told Alex Witt. "I watched him show documents to people at Mar-a-Lago on the dining room patio. So he has no respect for classified information. Never did."

Grisham went on to complain that it was very difficult to get a top security clearance, and said it was "offensive" that Trump showed classified documents to people without that clearance.

A vocal critic

"I can't stress enough how by being so loose with this stuff, he's potentially putting people in danger," she continued angrily. "And yeah, I had a top security clearance and it's very, very hard to obtain. So it's very important and it's vital to our country and our national security that only people with these clearances have access to any of these documents."

Grisham was First Lady Melania Trump's press secretary and chief of staff before becoming her husband's press secretary, making her one of the closest advisors to Trump.

She resigned after the Capitol breach on January 6, 2021, and has become an outspoken critic of Trump since then. She wrote a tell-all critical of Trump's administration called "I'll Take Your Questions Now" that was published in October 2021.

She also said in an interview last month that she thinks Trump kept the documents because "he thinks those are his. He's like a child holding on to his little toy train and nobody is going to take it from him."

She's angry

It's clear that Grisham has turned on Trump. Her anger is evident, and she seems to characterize Trump in the worst possible way every time she speaks about him.

While she was able to tell Witt what she saw while she was part of the administration, she does not have direct knowledge of whether Trump actually showed classified documents to anyone after he was out of office, as a recording seems to say.

Of course, Grisham's interpretation of Trump's words on the recording is that the documents were classified and that he knew they were.

"He talks specifically that he should have declassified it, but he didn't. So there, I think, is proof. I believe also there's a portion of that audio where he says, you know, this is off the record," Grisham said.

"And I know Donald Trump knows the rules of reporters, and he knows if it needs to be off the record that they can't talk about it. So I think he was covering himself in that regard," she added.

Trump is sure to have a field day with this.
