FBI opens investigation into Illinois mayor, a Biden ally

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) just launched an investigation into self-proclaimed "super mayor" Tiffany Henyard (D).

The New York Post reports that the FBI is looking into various misconduct allegations that have been made against Henyard, including allegations that she has misused her office.

The 40-year-old Henyard is the mayor of Dolton, Illinois, a small suburb of Chicago. To say that her mayorship has been controversial would be an understatement.

The FBI investigation comes not long after Henyard made a trip to the White House of President Joe Biden. She infamously posted a video of her meetup with Biden on social media.

The investigation

The Post details some of the allegations that the FBI will be looking into.

The outlet reports, "The eccentric mayor — whose face is plastered across billboards in tiny Dolton, Ill. —  is accused of spending taxpayer money on lavish and unnecessary trips and forking over $1 million for a police detail, then using its members to retaliate against her perceived enemies. "

It turns out that it was some of these "perceived enemies" - whom Henyard has allegedly wronged - who filed a complaint with the FBI about Henyard. The Post reports, "Lawrence Gardner, 57, said he visited an FBI office after Henyard shuttered his trucking business because he refused to renew a $3,500 political contribution."

The outlet adds, "When he refused to give her campaign more money, officials claimed he was illegally selling alcohol out of his business and pulled his license, according to Gardner, who said the allegations against him were false."

Gardner's allegation is one of many, according to the Post, that have been made against Henyard. They are all said to be similar in nature.

Shut down

This all comes not long after the attorney general of Illinois shut down Henyard's charity - "Tiffany Henyard Cares" - over allegations of financial corruption.

The Daily Mail reports, "'Tiffany Henyard Cares' was ordered to stop seeking contributions. Prior reporting found that Henyard used taxpayer money and the services of public employees to support the charity, which was not registered with the AG's office."

The outlet goes on to highlight the negative impact that Henyard's actions have had on her town.

It reports, "Henyard's notorious misuse of public funds, on expenditures that include personal styling, travel, and an outlandish salary, have allegedly plunged the tiny town of Dolton into $5 million of debt."

Henyard has released a statement on the FBI's investigation. In the statement, her spokesman said that she is unaware of any such investigation.
