New FBI whistleblower alleges bureau abuses security clearance process to punish conservatives, narrative dissenters

President Joe Biden's Justice Department and FBI have been thoroughly politicized at the senior management levels and weaponized against his political opponents, including lower and mid-level FBI agents with differing ideological views.

Such was the claim of yet another FBI whistleblower who has come forward and alleged that the bureau is revoking or suspending security clearances for agents based on their political affiliations, opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine, or questioning of official narratives, according to the New York Post.

Per the whistleblower's representatives, the belief put into action by senior FBI officials is that "if an FBI employee fit a certain profile as a political conservative, they were viewed as security concerns and unworthy to work at the FBI."

Biden's FBI working to "purge" conservative agents from the ranks

This latest whistleblower, who remains unnamed for now but was identified as a "registered Democrat" who worked as a supervisory special agent in the FBI's Security Division, has asserted that the bureau is abusing the security clearance process to punish and "purge" political conservatives and narrative dissenters from the ranks of the federal law enforcement agency.

They are represented by an organization known as Empower Oversight, which claims to possess documents that prove the FBI is politically biased and abusive of the process by including questions in the security clearance process like if an agent supports former President Donald Trump, objected to the COVID vaccine, or questioned the official narrative about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot of 2021.

Other examples of questions that appear to be designed to weed out FBI agents with conservative-leaning ideological views include queries about First Amendment-protected activities and whether they support Second Amendment-protected gun rights for American citizens.

FBI has "improperly suspended or revoked" security clearances for partisan reasons

The Daily Signal reported that the president of Empower Oversight, Tristan Leavitt, recently sent whistleblower disclosures to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees and filed a formal complaint with Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz.

In the letter to members of Congress, Leavitt wrote, "The client -- a registered Democrat -- witnessed firsthand as an SSA [supervisory special agent] how the FBI’s Security Division improperly suspended or revoked employees’ security clearances whose political views, medical views, or even ethnicity were questioned by Security Division leadership."

"Over the last few years, the FBI has used the clearance process as a means to force employees out of the FBI by inflicting severe financial distress: suspending their clearance, suspending them from duty without pay, requiring them to obtain permission to take any other job while stuck in this unpaid limbo, and delaying their final clearance adjudication indefinitely -- even years," the letter claimed.

Suspended without pay for two years for questioning narratives, refusing vaccine

One recent example of this alleged abuse of the FBI's security clearance process, according to the New York Post, involves a whistleblower agent named Marcus Allen, a decorated U.S. Marine and Iraq War veteran, who had his security clearance revoked and was suspended without pay for two years after he refused to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

Per The Daily Signal, Allen also raised doubts about the FBI's official narrative about the Capitol riot and questioned the bureau's revocation and suspension of security clearances for other whistleblowing agents, such as former FBI Special Agent Steve Friend, who testified to a congressional committee about his own experience with being punished for questioning the official Jan. 6 narrative.

Allen's security clearance was eventually reinstated after a review determined that senior officials had ignored "possibly exculpatory information" about him as well as that they had overruled investigators who determined that "Allen’s 'Allegiance to the United States' was not in question and that the suspension of his security clearance was not warranted."

Congressional Republicans and DOJ inspector general investigating allegations

The Post noted that the FBI has been insistent that it never uses its security clearance process in a "punitive" manner, but congressional Republicans think otherwise and so too, apparently, does DOJ IG Horowitz, who told Empower Oversight that he would welcome more information from "additional employees" about the "concerning questions that Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employees may have been asked" as part of the security clearance process.

"The FBI’s leadership has become weaponized from the inside out. That’s not just according to Chuck Grassley -- for years, many FBI whistleblowers have disclosed the same to my office," Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) told the Post. "The FBI’s political persecution of its own agents is an affront to justice. My oversight of Attorney General [Merrick] Garland and [FBI] Director [Christopher] Wray’s failure to correct this improper conduct and end this scandal will continue."
