U.S. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) just accused Jared Kushner - the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump - of having "crossed the line of ethics."

Comer alleged as much during an appearance on CNN's The Lead with host Jake Tapper.

Comer, as the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has been leading the investigation into the alleged corruption of the Biden family. A key subject of the investigation, of course, is Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.

This is how Kushner - Trump's son-in-law - came up during the CNN interview. Comer was goaded into making a comparison between the business dealings of Hunter Biden and those of Kushner.

Kushner, a grifter?

During his CNN appearance, Tapper played for Comer a clip of former New Jersey Gov. and current 2024 presidential candidate Chris Christie (R).

In the clip, Christie accuses Kushner of "grifting," presumably off of Trump's presidency. Christie references Kushner's acceptance of a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia.

The New York Times has reported that Kushner's firm - Affinity Partners - received a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund. The Times reported that the annual management fees were expected to be about $25 million. This took place about six months after Trump left office.

The Times further reported that the Saudi Public Investment Fund review panel raised concerns about the investment, particularly about the "inexperience" of Affinity Partners. But, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ended up overruling the panel's review.

It is clear that Christie was trying to make the argument that what Kushner did here is no different from what Hunter Biden has been accused of doing, that is, of living off of his father's name.

"I have been vocal . . ."

Tapper asked Comer to respond to the Christie clip.

Comer replied, "I have been vocal that I think that what Kushner did crossed the line of ethics."

Comer, however, went on to highlight some big differences between what Hunter Biden has allegedly done and what Kushner has done.

Comer said, "But, what Christie said, it happened after [Trump] left office. Still no excuse, Jake, but it happened after he left office. And Jared Kushner actually has a legitimate business."

The congressman continued:

This money from the Bidens happened while Joe Biden was vice president, while he was flying to those countries. He – look, days after he left Romania, his family started receiving wires from a corrupt Romanian foreign national, days, Jake, like four days after he left, including his granddaughter. What’s his granddaughter doing getting a wire from a Romanian foreign national?
