Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) skipped a vote in the Senate to attend former President Donald Trump's speech in New Jersey Tuesday.

Tuberville's missed voted included the debate on whether to confirm Biden nominee Jared Bernstein.

The consequences

"The move to end debate on Bernstein's nomination was passed in a 50-49 vote that included Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) standing with the 48 Republicans present. Bernstein was later confirmed with the same 50-49 tally, with Manchin's lone Democratic vote," the Washington Examiner reported.

"Republicans were anticipating having enough votes on Tuesday to force Vice President Kamala Harris to act as the tiebreaker. Republicans were reportedly "furious" with Tuberville for missing the vote, according to Punchbowl News," it added.

Tuberville also claimed that he would be at the event in a show of support to Trump.

"I will be standing right next to President Trump tonight in total support," he tweeted on Tuesday ahead of the event.

The claims

Trump shared his view on the classified documents found in his Florida home during the New Jersey speech.

“I hadn’t had a chance to go through all the boxes,” he said. “It’s a long tedious job. Takes a long time, which I was prepared to do, but I have a very busy life. I’ve had a very busy life. They make it more busy, because you’re always fighting.”

“These boxes were containing all types of personal belongings. Many, many things. Shirts and shoes and everything,” he added.

Trump also shifted focus to Biden's current investigation about international business deals when he was vice president.

“They don’t want to talk about the Biden’s $5 million bribe," he said, according to video from the event.

Tuberville's action may be controversial but it's Trump's indictment that has captured the attention of the nation as Americans await the outcome of the charges against the former president in the days ahead.
