Illegal immigration numbers plummet under Trump's leadership
It appears that President Donald Trump was right about the fact that America's illegal immigration problem is an easy fix.
This is evidenced, according to the New York Post, by the fact that America's illegal immigration numbers have plummeted during the few weeks that Trump has been in office.
There is little doubt that this is because Trump and his administration have led a massive crackdown on illegal immigration, spearheaded by Trump's border czar, Tom Homman, among others.
Chances are you knew that Trump would succeed, but you might be surprised to learn just how successful the operation has been.
Here are the numbers:
Currently, the Post reports that border officials are only seeing an average of about 359 crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border per day. This is a huge dropoff.
Per the outlet:
So far in February, about 359 illegal migrants per day have been caught across the entire southern border — down more than 90% from February 2024, according to leaked Customs and Border Protection data. That puts the US on track to have the lowest monthly border crossings in at least 25 years. If the trend continues, the number of illegal migrants coming into the US could hit a level not seen since 1968, nearly 60 years ago.
What the data shows is that, in 2024, the number of average daily illegal border crossings was 2,872; in 2023, it was 5,590; in 2022, it was 6,423; and, in 2021, it was 5,333."
These elevated numbers, of course, all came during the former administration of President Joe Biden.
One of the first things that Biden did as president, you will likely remember, was to open the border up, and the U.S. saw record numbers of illegal immigration as a result.
The job is not done yet
Although the number of illegal immigrant crossings is down, Homman is still not happy with the situation. This is because stopping border crossing is only one prong of the administration's multi-prong attack to the border problem.
Another prong is arresting and deporting those already in the country illegally, and this is specifically what Homman is not happy about.
Homman, during a recent interview, said:
I’m not happy with the numbers because we got a lot of criminals to find. So what we’re talking about right now is increasing the number of teams, increasing the targeting, the division of ICE that creates the targets, finding who these people are, what the criminal history is, and we’re most likely to find him.
Homman noted how he is being slowed down by so-called "sanctuary" areas of the country.
The Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) has made it clear that it will not let these "sanctuary" cities get away with this. Attorney General Pam Bondi has already taken action in this regard.
