IRS whistleblower suddenly removed from Hunter Biden case

An IRS whistleblower in the Hunter Biden investigation was removed following a conflict with the special counsel David Weiss.

Gary Shapley, who testified against Hunter Biden, has been taken off of the case, according to a new report.

The details

“I recall having discussions on December 22nd of 2022 about removing Gary Shapley’s investigative team from the investigation,” IRS official Michael Batdorf said.

“I mean, the decision to remove Mr. Shapley was made by Darrell and I in December, when we knew there was an issue — potential issue going forward. We just had not expressed that. It was not official as far as we hadn’t told Gary, because there was no — there’s no investigative steps to be taken,” Batdorf continued.

A growing concern

"Batdorf’s testimony was the latest piece of evidence to suggest Weiss did not enjoy the unfettered authority to pursue Hunter Biden that Garland and others claimed he had," the Washington Examiner reported.

"Still, Batdorf, who was above Shapley in the IRS chain of command, stopped short of attributing the DOJ’s actions to bias in favor of President Joe Biden," it added.

Shapley's words

“There were multiple steps that were slow-walked – were just completely not done – at the direction of the Department of Justice,” Shapley told CBS News chief investigative correspondent Jim Axelrod in May.

“When I took control of this particular investigation, I immediately saw deviations from the normal process. It was way outside the norm of what I’ve experienced in the past," he stated.

If Shapley was not removed from the case for misconduct then why was he taken off of the case?

The change leaves yet more questions about the relationship between Weiss and Hunter Biden, with many arguing that Weiss is seeking to protect the first son rather than fairly investigating him.

Removing Shapley seems to support this view, once again downplaying concerns against multiple issues being investigated in the life of the president's son.
