The Biden-Harris administration has spent months urging the Israeli government to pursue a ceasefire in its war with the terror group known as Hamas.

However, the White House may have been blindsided last week when Israel released video footage proving it had killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

IDF: Sinwar "was eliminated"

According to Fox News, Israel blamed the 61-year-old Sinwar for having masterminded the terror attack on October 7, 2023 which killed roughly 1,200 people.

His death was addressed in a video posted to social media on Saturday by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.

"Killing Sinwar is the result of a year of operational and intelligence efforts to bring him and other Hamas leaders to justice,"  Hagari declared.

Hagari stressed that Sinwar's killing represented "the first and last time that he encountered Israeli soldiers, and he was eliminated."

However, the Israeli military spokesperson was quick to point out that although Hamas' leader "has been eliminated," Israel's "mission is not over."

Hagari noted how Sinwar had operated from the safety of tunnels located beneath the Gazan city known as Khan Yunis in order to "keep his position classified."

"This was a luxury that the people of Gaza did not have. Sinwar always prioritized himself, his money, and Hamas terrorists over the people of Gaza," he added.

In another social media post, IDF Arabic spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee posted images which showed Sinwar's wife toting a designer Hermès Birkin handbag valued at $32,000.

Hamas acknowledges that Sinwar was killed

Fox News pointed out that Sinwar's death was acknowledged in a statement released on Friday by senior Hamas official Basem Naim.

"Yes it’s very painful and distressing to lose beloved people, especially extraordinary leaders like ours, but what we are sure of is that we are eventually victorious; this is the outcome for all people who fought for their liberty," Naim was quoted as saying.

"It seems that Israel believes that killing our leaders means the end of our movement and the struggle of the Palestinian people. They can believe what they want, and this is not the first time they said that," he added.

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
