Ivanka Trump will not return to Washington, says politics is "negative business"

Following his first election victory, President-elect Donald Trump's eldest daughter entered the spotlight as a high-profile adviser to his administration.

Yet while Mr. Trump may be smiling over his return to the White House, Ivanka Trump has officially said that she has no intentions of joining him there. 

Ivanka says politics is "a very dark, negative business"

According to the New York Post, Ivanka made that declaration this week during an appearance on the Skinny Confidential's "Him & Her Show" podcast.

"I love policy and impact. I hate politics. And unfortunately, the two are not separable," she explained before adding that politics is a "very dark, negative business."

The 43-year-old went on to insist that "[t]here is a darkness to that world that I don’t really want to welcome into mine."

"To some degree, I’m at the center of the storm because my father is about to be president, but it’s a very dark, negative business. And some people love the gladiator aspect of it — the fight. That was never me," she continued.

Presidency is "the world's loneliest position"

Regarding her relationship with her father, Ivanka said, "I think I’m most looking forward to just being able to show up for him as a daughter and be there for him to take his mind off things, to watch a movie with him, or watch a sports game."

"To know that he can be with me, and be himself and just relax and for me to be able to provide that for him in a very loving way as his daughter," she asserted

Ivanka went on to call being president "the world's loneliest position" given "the enormity of the decisions you’re making on a daily basis, how transactional everyone is with you."

In addition to expressing distaste for drama in the nation's capital, Ivanka also pointed to the toll that public service had taken on her family.

Ivanka points to children as reason for staying home

"The main reason I am not going back to serve now is I know the cost, and it’s a price that I’m not willing to make my kids bear," explained before adding, "My primary goals were just to like, be the best freaking mom."

"It’s hard. I mean, I did the best I could — and I think I was there for all the really critical moments — but you don’t want to miss the small ones either," Ivanka pointed out.

"Every time I had to miss something, I'm like, 'I will never let this happen again in the minute I leave the White House,'" she stated.
