Special Counsel Jack Smith has just handed former President Donald Trump a big legal win.

Breitbart News reports that Smith is no longer seeking expedited hearings.

This is all taking place in the so-called election interference case that Smith has brought against Trump, in Washington, D.C.

Trump has maintained his innocence, and he insists that Smith is merely running his own election interference on behalf of the Democrats.

Things have not been going Smith's way.

This case had been put on hold for over six months as Trump appealed his presidential immunity defense.

The appeal made it all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court, where the justices ruled that Trump and other U.S. presidents are immune from prosecution for official acts. The court, however, did not take the extra step of explaining what is and is not an official act.

Instead, the court has left this question up to the lower courts to resolve.

This is what is currently taking place in Chutkan's court. Smith is trying to see which of Trump's alleged acts Chutkan will deem unofficial, thus allowing Smith to continue with his prosecution of Trump.

Smith has been looking to expedite the situation.

Or, at least, he was looking to expedite it.

Smith, throughout his prosecution of Trump, has not hidden the fact that he has been looking to obtain a guilty conviction of Trump before the 2024 presidential election. Accordingly, it was no surprise when Smith sought to expedite the presidential immunity hearings.

What is surprising, though, is that Smith is no longer looking to speed things up.

Newsweek reports:

Special Counsel Jack Smith has reportedly decided not to seek a so-called "mini-trial" to present evidence in former President Donald Trump's federal election interference case before the November election . . . The decision by Smith means that evidence and testimonies related to Trump's federal indictment . . . will not be presented to the public before voters head to the polls on November 5.

Suffice it to say that this is a win for Trump.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung has put out a statement, saying:
