James Carville said Democrat numbers 'horrifying' as young minorities leave party in droves

James Carville sounded very worried about Democrat electoral prospects Sunday on his latest segment of the "Carville's Classroom" podcast on Politicon's YouTube channel, calling the numbers "horrifying" as young minorities seem to be leaving the party in droves.

“I’ve been very vocal about this,” the former Bill Clinton campaign strategist said on his “Carville’s Classroom” podcast. “It’s horrifying our numbers among younger voters, particularly younger blacks, younger Latinos … younger people of color. Particularly males.”

“We’re not shedding them, they’re leaving in droves,” he added.

What Gallup said

A Gallup survey taken in 2023 and released in February showed that Republicans have closed the gap with Black voters by 20 points in the past three years. 66% of Blacks leaned or were Democrat while 19% leaned or were Republican in the poll.

In 2020, it was 77% to 11%.

Similarly, 47% of Hispanics said they leaned or were Democrat, while 35% leaned or were Republican. In 2020, it was 57% to 26%.

While Democrats still hold the majority of those voting blocs, the shift would be well more than enough to change the outcome of a close election.

Trump has an edge

Looking specifically at President Joe Biden's polling numbers, he now has 63% support from Black voters, while in 2020 he had 87% support.

That's a 24% drop in support, which is highly significant considering only about 45,000 votes in three states won Biden the election last time.

With Hispanics and voters under 35, former President Donald Trump currently holds a four to five-point edge over Biden, which is very unusual for a Republican candidate.

“We’re not going to convince under 30, under 35, ‘Oh, we really built a great country for you,’” Carville admitted. “You’re looking at this job market … I don’t think you’re going to buy that.”

A tall order

Instead, Carville thinks Democrats need to convince them that electing Trump is going to be a lot worse than Biden--a tall order if the last seven years of Trump-hate by the left hasn't already convinced them of that.

If that's the best Democrats can do, Biden is probably in even more trouble than Carville or the rest of them think he is.
