A reality TV star appears to be facing potentially serious legal trouble following an incident that involved a law enforcement response, but her attorney has an excuse at the ready to absolve her alleged misbehavior.

Angelina Pivarnick, an original cast member of MTV's "Jersey Shore," is facing a slew of criminal charges that include "simple assault" and "resisting arrest," according to a report from TV Insider.

Though few details are known about what happened, Pivarnick's attorney downplayed the matter as a "very minor incident" that was made worse by an "adverse reaction" she suffered from a "prescribed over-the-counter medication."

Attorney responds to issuance of criminal summons

Celebrity gossip site TMZ first reported on Wednesday that it had obtained a copy of a municipal summons issued by New Jersey's Freehold Township against Pivarnick, which included criminal charges like "simple assault, criminal mischief, obstructing the administration of law, and resisting arrest."

No further details of what precipitated those charges were mentioned on the summons and multiple attempts by the outlet to garner such information from the Freehold Township Police were rebuffed with references to a confidentiality policy that applies to domestic violence case and ongoing criminal investigations.

Pivarnick's attorney, James Leonard, told TMZ, "This is nothing more than a very minor incident that was exacerbated by an adverse reaction to prescribed over-the-counter medication."

"We look forward to resolving this matter favorably and putting it behind us. Angelina is home resting and has no further comment at this time," he added.

The outlet added that the attorney declined to provide specifics about what occurred other than reiterating his assertion that it wasn't particularly serious.

Possible domestic dispute with fiancé

TMZ concluded its report by noting that Pivarnick had a court date scheduled for July and pointed out that it was unclear if the incident involved her fiancé, Vinny Tortorella, to whom she got engaged in 2022.

However, the New York Post's Page Six reported that its sources indicated that Tortorella was present at Pivarnick's New Jersey home -- though it was unknown if he was a victim -- when the police were called to respond to an incident over the weekend.

The outlet further cited a since-deleted social media post which claimed that multiple police cars and an ambulance had been seen outside the MTV star's home on Sunday.

According to Page Six, this wasn't the first time that cops have been called to respond to an alleged domestic dispute involving Pivarnick and Tortorella, as there was a similar occurrence in November 2023, though no criminal charges were pressed and attorneys for both downplayed the significance of the incident at that time.

Engaged to fellow reality TV star

TV Insider reported that Pivarnick, a star of the first two seasons of MTV's "Jersey Shore" reality show, was previously married to Chris Larangeira, a star of the spinoff series "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation," but they were divorced in early 2022.

Later in 2022, Pivarnick accepted an on-air engagement proposal from Tortorella, who also starred in the "Family Vacation" series, and the pair have been together ever since then.
