Jill and Joe Biden finally acknowledge their seventh grandchild

Fox News noted earlier in July that President Joe Biden was getting backlash for insisting that he only has six grandchildren despite his son fathering a seventh child out of wedlock.

However, Jill Biden and the president changed their tune last week by publicly acknowledging the little girl as being part of their family.

"Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy"

The admission came in the form of a statement provided to Fox News which identified Navy Joan as their granddaughter and also named her mother, former exotic dancer Lunden Roberts.

"Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward," the statement read.

"This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter. Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy," it went on to add.

That declaration came following years of ignoring Navy's existence, something which led to widespread criticism of the president.

Legal scholar called first family's behavior a "monstrosity"

It was also preceded by a protracted court fight on the part of Hunter Biden to keep his daughter from using his last name.

What's more, First Lady Jill Biden made headlines last winter when she failed to put up a White House stocking for Navy at Christmas despite hanging stockings for the family pets.

Among the most vocal critics was George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley, who called the first family's behavior a "monstrosity" in an op-ed piece for Fox News.

Turley followed those words up with another excoriating article this past Friday, writing, "Even for those of us who merely followed this saga from the beginning, the statement was maddening and frankly insulting."

Turley says statement motivated by "disgust expressed even by Democrats"

"It suggested that there was some reason, until now, that prevented the Bidens from acknowledging the existence of their fifth granddaughter," he continued.

"That is false. There was no legal, or even tactical, reason for the refusal of the first couple to acknowledge Navy for four years," Turley insisted.

What's more, he doubted the sincerity of the Bidens' comments, arguing that they were almost certainly motivated by "the disgust expressed even by Democrats that this is simply wrong."
