Vice President Kamala Harris might have experienced a temporary polling boost after her coronation and the Democratic National Convention, but she's still experiencing her fair share of struggles that could bite her campaign in November.

According to the New York Post, Harris is having a particularly bad time with Muslim voters, who seem to gravitate to Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

A recently published poll by the Council on American-Islamic Relations shows that Harris is struggling to best Stein in gaining Muslim support.

Many believe Harris should otherwise be dominating Stein in virtually all demographics.

What's going on?

The poll by the Council on American-Islamic Relations showed that Harris and Stein were tied for Muslim voter support at 29%, which is a real issue for Harris given the Muslim voter populations in certain important states.

Former President Donald Trump came in third in the poll with 11% of support. Cornel West garnered 4% and Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver managed to snag 1% of support.

The Post noted:

To put that number in perspective, even a majority of Democrats, who make up 70% of the sample, aren’t backing the party’s nominee.

Notably, even though Harris is struggling to best the candidate of a much smaller party, it represents an uptick for the Democratic nominee, as in a previous iteration of the poll, President Joe Biden only managed to garner 7% support.

In the previous poll, Stein garnered a whopping 36% of support, while 25% backed West.

Statement released

CAIR released a statement with a summary of its thoughts on the latest poll.

"With over 90% of Muslim voters still indicating they have a voting preference or are still considering which candidate to support, the American Muslim community continues to exhibit a strong determination to participate in this election despite widespread discontent," the organization wrote.

The Post added:

CAIR contends that Muslim voters have a “significant presence in swing states,” and the numbers bear that out in two particularly: Michigan, where nearly 250,000 Muslims live amid 8.4 million registered voters; and Pennsylvania, home to nearly 150,000 more and where Republicans recently are winning the registration battle with Democrats.d

Harris will need all the help she can get, especially in states where the Muslim vote counts, like Minnesota.
