Jimmy Fallon's late night show is being cut back
NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has just been cut back.
Now, according to Variety, the program will only air four nights a week instead of five. And, on Friday, the media outlet, instead, will broadcast repeats.
The reason for this, according to Variety, is an economical one. Per the outlet:
NBC will move “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to four nights a week, the latest in a series of moves across the late-night daypart aimed at shoring up the economics of the programs as audiences move away from watching TV in linear fashion.
This, of course, is a long-winded way of saying that Fallon just is not pulling a profitable audience, and so the show has to be reduced. There is no one who will be happier about this than former President Donald Trump.
"Talentless, low-rated CREEPS"
It is no secret that Trump is no fan of late-night television programming. This probably has something to do with the fact that, over the past decade, late-night television hosts - from Fallon to Stephen Colbert to Jimmy Kimmel to others - have tried to make a living off of attacking Trump.
Trump, of course, does not take such things lying down, and, over the years, he has put out numerous statements in which he has blasted late-night television hosts.
Last October, for example, after the end of the Hollywood strike, Trump came out swinging against the late-night hosts.
"Now that the ‘strike’ is over, the talentless, low rated CREEPS of Late Night Television are back," Trump, at the time, wrote.
He continued:
I knew there was a reason I didn’t want to see it settled — True LOSERS!!! Remember when I told you that the poorly rated and not at all funny Late Night Talk Shows are nothing less than a major Campaign Contribution to the Radical Left Democrat Party. Watch what is going on – so interesting!
The latest
Now, as Variety reports, light-night television shows are having to cut back because they are failing to generate an audience.
The outlet reports:
CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” are already on a four-originals-per-week schedule.
Fallon's show has now been added to the list.
The New York Post reports that "while late-night numbers may be dwindling across the board due to streaming, all of the networks are still paying their hosts seriously big bucks."
The outlet adds, "In addition to Fallon’s rumored $16 million salary, both Kimmel and Colbert are reported to make around $15 million a year."
