Joe and Jill Biden break vow to keep working hard, spend weeks on vacation
When President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign in July, he vowed to keep working hard at his job until his term in office concluded.
Biden has instead been on vacation for most of the time since then, and rather than hold him accountable to his promise to the American people, first lady Jill Biden has been relaxing right by his side, according to the Daily Mail.
Now no longer fighting to remain in office and enjoy the spoils of power, Jill has apparently abandoned her duty to keep her elderly and cognitively challenged husband on task, and in the process has added to his humiliation on the global stage.
Biden promised to keep working hard for remainder of his time in office
Just days after he announced the he would no longer seek a second term and that he had endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him as the Democratic nominee, President Biden delivered remarks from the Oval Office to ostensibly explain the reasons for his decision to the American people.
During those remarks, Biden said at one point, "Over the next six months, I’ll be focused on doing my job as president."
A couple of weeks later -- some of which was spent vacationing at his homes in Delaware -- Biden gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention and reiterated a similar message about his continued commitment to his presidential duties.
Indeed, Biden declared that he'd be "working like hell" over his remaining five months in office because he still had "a lot to do" before his term concluded.
Delaware to California and back again
Yet, immediately after his DNC speech, President Biden and his family jetted off from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Barbara, California, for a vacation at the nearby sprawling estate of a wealthy Democratic donor.
Following several days of rest and relaxation at the 8,000-acre ranch and vineyard, Biden and his family boarded Air Force One to leave California -- but they didn't return to Washington D.C. and the White House.
Instead, the president and first lady returned to Delaware once again for a week-long vacation at their beachfront property in Rehoboth.
Over the course of that vacation, both Joe and Jill were spotted multiple times relaxing on the beach, prompting legitimate questions about who is actually in charge of the federal government and managing the nation's affairs.
It wasn't until Monday, nearly two weeks after he vowed to keep "working like hell" at the DNC, that Biden returned to work -- sort of, as he joined VP Harris on the campaign trail for a Labor Day rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Biden far outpaces GOP predecessors for vacations and days away from White House
According to an X post from former CBS News correspondent Mark Knoller, who keeps close tabs on presidential vacations, Biden's most recent visit to his beach house in Rehoboth marked his 114th trip to one of his properties in Delaware, which have comprised all or part of at least 328 days since his presidency began.
For comparison, Knoller observed that at the same point in their presidencies -- and for which they were routinely and sharply criticized -- former President Donald Trump had visited his properties at Mar-a-Lago in Florida or Bedminster in New Jersey a total of 51 times for 240 days while former President George W. Bush had traveled to his Crawford, Texas, ranch 38 times for a total of 254 days.
