Judge attempts 'financial assassination' of Trump

The Fox News Channel's Jesse Watters has accused Judge Arthur Engoron of attempting to "financially assassinate" former President Donald Trump.

This comes after Engoron, on Friday, ordered Trump to pay over $450 million in penalties.

CNBC reports that Engoron also barred Trump from running a business in the state of New York for three years, and he is placing someone in Trump's organization to ensure that the former president complies with his ruling.

This is the conclusion, at least at the trial court level, of the civil fraud case that New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) brought against Trump. This is the case in which James alleged that the former president committed fraud by overinflating his assets on bank documents.

"Financial Assassination"

Watters accused Engoron of attempting to "financially assassinate" Trump during Friday's edition of his Fox News program, Jesse Watters Primetime.

There, Watters reacted to Engoron's ruling, highlighting the various unsavory aspects of the case.

"[These charges] were brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who campaigned on fighting Trump, not crime. Remember, Letitia James visited the Biden White House three times," Watters said, in part.

The Fox News host went on to note that, in this case, "there were no victims or damages; not a single bank or Trump customer customer ever complained; everyone made money; and Trump paid hundreds of millions in taxes and employed thousands of people."

Watters said, "This is a financial assassination attempt of a political target."

An appeal is forthcoming

Trump has released a statement on the ruling.

"This is Russia, this is China, this is the same game, all comes out of the DOJ. It all comes out of Biden. It’s a witch-hunt against his political opponent, the likes of which our country has never seen before, you see it in third world countries, banana republics, but you don’t see it here," Trump said.

Trump went on to refer to Engoron as "a corrupt person," and he referred to James as "a horribly corrupt attorney general," who is running "election interference" for President Joe Biden and the Democrats. "These are radical left Democrats, they are lunatics, and it’s election interference," Trump said.

Trump, during the statement that he gave reporters, also made it clear that he and his legal team "will be appealing" Engoron's ruling.

Legal experts believe that once Trump gets away from the heavily biased lower-level New York City courts, the former president will likely win on appeal.
