Kash Patel FBI shakeup has DC outraged

Kash Patel, the new director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is shaking things up, and, apparently, Washington, D.C., is not too happy about it.

The Daily Mail reports, "The FBI's newest director has sparked an unprecedented firestorm within the bureau he was hand-picked to lead."

This, of course, should not come as a surprise to anyone, considering that this is exactly what President Donald Trump picked Patel to do and it is exactly what Patel said that he would do.

One thing that is for sure is that criticism is not going to stop Patel or Trump.

Here's what is going on:

The Wall Street Journal recently published a piece detailing some of the steps that Patel has been taking since becoming the new FBI director.

Perhaps one of the biggest changes is the way that Patel is teaming up with Trump.

The Journal writes:

Among Kash Patel’s first questions as FBI director was one that underscored who was now in charge. What was the best way to call the Oval Office on a secure line from both his office at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and from home, Patel asked officials, according to people familiar with his inquiry.

The Journal goes on to suggest that this is a bad thing, writing, "Patel’s determination to keep in close contact with Trump himself is an arrangement outside the traditional chain of command in which the FBI director reports to the deputy attorney general, and the president usually talks only to the attorney general."

Do you see a problem with cutting out the middleman?

There's more...

Patel, apparently, is doing only things, as well, that have caught the attention of D.C.

The Journal writes:

In addition to the phone line, Patel has inquired about hiring his own private security detail. The director already gets a retinue of FBI agents tasked with ensuring his safety, but Patel asked about having a separate detail, in an apparent suggestion that he didn’t fully trust the FBI agents, according to people familiar with the request.

The biggest question, in all of this, is whether Patel is taking steps to actually get the job done, and the FBI says that he is.

"Director Patel is aggressively working to deliver on removing criminals from our streets, restoring law and order, and ensuring agents have the resources they need to perform their duties effectively," FBI spokesperson Ben Williamson said.

"We have absolutely zero interest in engaging with false leaks or distractions that undermine that mission," he added.
