Linda McMahon resigns from Trump Media board
Linda McMahon has resigned from the board of directors of the Trump Media & Technology Group.
This is according to a new report from Business Insider.
McMahon is the Trump administration's Secretary of the Department of Education, which probably has something to do with her resignation from the board.
The move has, at the time of this writing, yet to be confirmed by major news outlets.
What we know:
Business Insider is said to have obtained this information from a recent regulatory filing.
It reports, "According to a regulatory filing, effective March 3, 2025, the board of directors of Trump Media (DJT) & Technology Group Corp. appointed George Holding as a member of the Board."
The outlet goes on to provide more information about this situation.
It writes:
The Board has determined that Holding qualifies as an independent director under the applicable standards of the Board, the Nasdaq Listing Rules, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, as amended. There are no relationships or related party transactions between the Company and Holding, of the type required to be disclosed under applicable Securities and Exchange Commission rules. Holding was appointed to serve on the Compensation Committee of the Board. Holding will receive standard compensatory and other agreements and arrangements provided to other non-employee directors of the company, including prorated portions of the company’s standard cash retainer and equity compensation.
Finally, the report concludes, " Effective March 3, 2025, Linda McMahon resigned from the Board, upon her confirmation by the U.S. Senate as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. Her resignation is not a result of any disagreement with the company."
Bigger fish to fry?
President Trump has put McMahon atop the Education Department, and neither individual has hid the fact that they are looking to, more or less, do away with the department.
President Trump, in fact, has said that he hopes that McMahon puts herself out of a job. McMahon is on board with this.
The Independent recently reported:
McMahon later confirmed she believed her job is to secure a near-impossible three-fifths supermajority, or 60 votes, needed in the Senate to abolish the agency – but said that she would not simply walk away and abandon the department.
Trump has made it clear that he wants education in the United States to be run by state and local governments, rather than by the federal government. He thinks that such a setup would be far more effective.
Trump has highlighted the fact that America, despite spending more money than anyone else on education per pupil, is currently in last place among the top 40 countries.
