Forbes magazines reported this past week that pop sensation Taylor Swift stood a chance of scoring the most-ever Grammy Awards for album of the year on Sunday evening.

Yet as the Western Journal pointed out, Swift was being overshadowed this weekend as a massive storm system threatened tragedy.

All of Los Angeles County at risk

As Fox Weather noted, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Weather Prediction Center (WPC) issued a warning for people in the Los Angeles area.

"Changes to the previous outlook were to extend the high risk area farther to the east into the eastern portions of the Transverse Range where the upslope flow lingers longer than areas farther to the west," it stated.

"The high risk was also expanded south to cover all of Los Angeles County to the south of the Transverse Range as per coordination with (the National Weather Service office in Los Angeles)," the statement continued.

"This is the type of rain that they cannot handle"

The WPC went on to caution that "life-threatening flash and urban flash flooding" are a possibility between Sunday and Monday.

"This is the type of rain that they cannot handle," the Journal quoted Fox Weather meteorologist Britta Merwin as saying.

"This is a guaranteed flood setup. There’s no way around it. We know it’s going to be bad, and there’s going to be huge impacts," Merwin went on to add.

Ryan Kittell is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office for Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Times reported that he addressed the impending deluge at a press conference on Sunday.

Freeways expected to flood

"The heaviest main band of the rain looks to stall now over L.A. County," Kittell explained. "That’s a lot of water, people. I mean, that’s a lot."

"We’re expecting a lot of freeway flooding and road flooding, road closures. Many parked cars will be flooded ... especially in low-lying areas of neighborhoods," he cautioned.

Meanwhile, Deadline reported that there are concerns over whether the downpour and resulting traffic concerns will make it difficult for attendees to leave the Grammys.
