Michelle Obama makes no mention of Joe Biden during DNC speech

Former First Lady Michelle Obama returned to her hometown of Chicago this week and spoke to attendees at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Yet while Mrs. Obama praised Vice President Kamala Harris, she seemed quick to throw Harris' boss under the bus.

Democrats "passing the torch over Joe Biden"

According to the Daily Caller, that was the impression members of a CNN panel were left with after hearing the former first lady's remarks.

"Barack Obama, the president, literally said 'passing the torch' so it’s not subtle. With Michelle Obama, there was something that she did, which was almost, 'we're passing the torch over Joe Biden.' She didn't mention Joe Biden," CNN host John Berman said.

"That was hard not to notice, right?" CNN political analyst David Chalian said in response. "She had zero mention of Joe Biden, the person that her husband put on the ticket and sort of elevated him to this new potential in his long-storied career."

Barack Obama made a point of mentioning Biden

"And yet Barack Obama did make sure to dedicate several paragraphs of the speech to Joe Biden and to give him a tribute," Chalian continued.

"Perhaps … that was one reason why Michelle Obama didn't feel it was necessary. She knew it was the husband’s speech," he suggested.

"But also we know that Michelle Obama saw her role here as far different. It wasn't to check every box of a political speech," he added.

Joe Biden ignored by Harris and Walz during first rally

This wasn't the only snub Biden has received, as the Daily Caller pointed out that while he had been promised a prime-time spot to deliver his speech on Monday night, the president did not address delegates until late in the evening.

What's more, neither Vice President Kamala Harris nor Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz bothered to mention Biden at their first joint rally.

For his part, Biden opted to go on vacation after delivering his Monday night speech rather than remain at the convention, a move which former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza described as "super telling."

"Joe Biden is p---ed. He wanted his legacy to end differently," Cillizza said during a podcast. "But I think it’s really important to note he’s a human being, and what has transpired over the last two months is really, really, really difficult."
