Only about one-fourth of Democrats support President Joe Biden running for reelection in 2024, according to a new survey.

The McLaughlin & Associates survey asked Americans, “Thinking ahead to the 2024 Democratic primary election for President, if that election were held today among the following candidates, for whom would you vote?”

The responses

"Several potential Democrat candidates were listed, including President Biden, former first lady Michelle Obama, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, failed Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke, Vice President Kamala Harris, and several more," Breitbart News reported.

"In a crowded Democrat field, Biden garnered roughly a quarter, 26 percent, support, leading his closest potential challenger, Michelle Obama, by 12 percent. No other candidate listed saw double digit support," it added.

Low approval rating continues

Biden's low approval rating also continued. Just 44% approve of his leadership, while 54% disapprove.

Biden has not yet announced his run for reelection but is widely expected to do so. “He said he intends to run. So, nothing’s been planned yet. I think, you know, he’s been so busy with being in Ukraine, handling some of the crises at home,” First Lady Jill Biden recently said.

The same survey found that 65% of Americans believe that the U.S. is on the wrong track. Only 36% of Democrats held this view.

The study found that the GOP currently leads Americans in a generic Congressional ballot for 2024. A total of 48% chose the GOP, 41% Democrats and 11% were undecided.

Among Republican contenders for 2024, only former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis received double-digits in the survey.

Trump ranked first with 42% of the response among more than 10 candidates. DeSantis received 26% of responses. In a head-to-head match-up, Trump also led over DeSantis by 18 percentage points in the latest poll.

DeSantis has not yet announced whether he will run in 2024. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy have entered the race in addition to Trump. Others likely to run include Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo and Tim Scott, among other Republican hopefuls.
