While the outcome of the presidential race will undoubtedly have a profound impact on Americans moving forward, the race for control of the U.S. Senate is equally important.

Democrats already have razor-thin majority control of the upper chamber, and there's a strong chance that control switches to the GOP after the next election, and one Democratic senator's chances of keeping his seat just dwindled.

According to Fox News, an election handicapper has made a significant change to the Senate race out of Pennsylvania, putting Sen. Bob Casey's (D) chances of winning lower than they were.

The Senate race in Pennsylvania was just recently rated as leaning toward the Democrats, but that has changed and caused a last-minute shakeup.

What's going on?

Casey, the incumbent senator out of the Keystone State now faces the real possibility of dropping the seat to Republican challenger Dave McCormick.

While it was previously described as "lean Democrat," the Cook Political Report has changed the rating to "toss up," causing nothing less than a nightmare for Democrats not only in the state but also in Washington D.C.

Fox News noted:

Cook cited McCormick "shoring up the GOP base and making gains in the western part of the state," as part of its justification. It also noted that while Casey has a several point advantage over his opponent in public polls, the race is reportedly within the margin of error in both Democratic and Republican internal surveys.

The outlet also noted that since split-ticket voting has become increasingly rare, it's more than likely whoever wins the White House will also have their party win control of the upper chamber.

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are extremely close in Pennsylvania, with some believing that Trump has the state locked down due to a surge in support.

Social media users respond

Users across social media weighed in on the ratings change in Pennsylvania.

"Looks like Casey’s in trouble! McCormick's gaining ground, and it’s only going to get better from here," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Republicans vote straight Republican ticket so if @realDonaldTrump wins so does this senator ! Fact."

With just a few weeks left before the election, it'll be interesting to see if the momentum for McCormick continues to build.
