Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made headlines late last week after experiencing a serious fall while visiting a battlefield site in Luxembourg.

A new report provides medical details about the 84-year-old's ordeal along with an account from someone who provided her with assistance.

Fellow lawmaker describes helping Pelosi to her feet

According to the New York Post, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul told reporters on Tuesday about seeing Pelosi go down.

"She had a hip replacement. I was right next to her. She likes to wear high heels — very high," the Texas congressman explained.

"She was on one of her last steps on this marble staircase that didn’t have a railing and she lost her footing and fell to the ground," he continued.

"I immediately helped pick her up. And we took a picture of that. You can see me holding her up by her hand and then very soon thereafter, a vehicle showed up and took her to the hospital," McCaul pointed out.

Pelosi's office confirmed that she underwent surgery

"She’s 84, but when I talked to her on the phone, she had a lot of energy. Very spunky. She wants to get out of there, she wants to fly back home to the United States. Overall, she’s in good spirits," McCaul stressed.

The Post noted that a statement released by Pelosi's office later confirmed that the former speaker did indeed undergo surgery after falling.

"Earlier this morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend," Ian Krager said on Saturday.

Krager went on to insist that the elderly San Francisco Democrat remains "ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans."

Sources say Pelosi may run for another term

Pelosi also extended her thanks to staff members at Landstuhl Army Base's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center as well as those at Luxembourg's Hospital Kirchberg.

Despite her health problems and advanced age, there are indications that Pelosi may well seek yet another term in office.

An article published by the San Francisco Chronicle cited two unnamed Democratic House members who said that Pelosi's decision of whether to run again will depend on President-elect Donald Trump's conduct in his second term.
