Sen. Fetterman parts ways with Democrats on the issue of squatters

U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) does not believe that squatters - people who illegally occupy another person's property - have rights.

He said as much during a recent interview with the New York Post

This is the latest example of Fetterman parting ways with his fellow Democrats on a major issue. In the interview, in fact, Fetterman came right out and said that he is no "progressive" and that he is not "woke."

This has to be a huge to blow to those who thought that he was both of these things.

"Squatters have no rights"

The Post's interview with Fetterman touched upon several hot-button issues, starting with the issue of squatters.

Fetterman, matter of factly, told the Post that, in his view, "squatters have no rights." He rhetorically asked, "How can you even pretend that this is anything other than you’re just breaking the law?"

At this point, the U.S. Senator thought it was necessary to make it clear that he is "not woke." Then, he continued discussing the issue of squatters, saying that it is something that he has "always tried to push back against."

Fetterman revealed that he has actually been following the Post's extensive coverage of the squatters issue, and he said that he has been horrified by it.

"It’s wild, that if you go away on a long trip, for 30 days, and someone breaks into your home and suddenly they have rights. This is crazy. Like if somebody stole your car, and then they held it for 30 days, then somehow you now have some rights?" Fetterman said.

He's right about that, and this:

Fetterman, elsewhere in the interview, spoke about crime and about the recent murder of New York Police Department Detective Jonathan Diller.

The suspect, according to reports, had over 20 previous arrests. While Fetterman said that he believes in second chances, he added that he does not believe in 20 extra changes.

"If you have those kinds of established records, It doesn’t serve any greater goal to allow people that are offending, offending, offending and allow them to not be held accountable," the senator said.

Fetterman also called for political leaders to get "smart and aggressive on crime."

The Post and Fetterman finally touched upon the Israel-Hamas conflict and even the 2024 election. Fetterman said that he believes that former President Donald Trump will be "incredibly strong in Pennsylvania." But, he added that he expects President Joe Biden to win.

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
