The justices of the U.S. Supreme Court are required to disclose how they make income outside of their appointed positions, and the latest disclosure report was released last week.

Given their powerful and influential positions, most SCOTUS justices dabble in outside ventures, such as book deals. They also receive gifts from various friends and supporters that they're required to disclose.

According to the BBC, eight of the nine justices filed their disclosures, with Justice Samuel Alito requesting a 90-day extension to file his.

The report provided insight into what the justices are receiving as far as gifts, and there are some notable entries, to say the least.

Who got what?

Notably, the newest justice on the bench, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, had the most interesting disclosures, which included an expensive gift from singer Beyonce.

The popular singer reportedly gifted Jackson concert tickets valued at nearly $4,0000. Jackson also received a generous advance on her upcoming book, "Lovely One," to the tune of $900,000 from the publisher, according to the report.

Jackson also received two gifts classified as artwork for her office, valued at a total of $12,500.

Fox News noted:

While Jackson’s filing didn’t specify which concert she received the tickets for, it was during Beyoncé’s "Renaissance World Tour."

Vice President Kamala Harris also previously filed that she was gifted tickets by Beyoncé, valuing them at $3,300, according to CNBC.

Last year, Jackson, who was appointed to the court in 2022, also had a couple of eye-popping filings, including more than $6,500 in clothes from a photo shoot and a $1,200 flower display from Oprah Winfrey, according to The Hill.

Justice Clarence Thomas also made a notable amendment to his 2023 filing, revealing that GOP megadonor and billionaire Harlan Crow "two trips with Mr Crow in 2019 — one to Bali and one to California. The trips were added as an amendment to a previous disclosure."

The others

Several other justices, including Justices Neil Gorsuch, Sonia Sotomayor, Brett Kavanaugh, listed that they received royalties from previously published books.

Justice Kavanaugh reportedly received $340,000 on his book advance from publisher Regnery Publishing, with reports emerging that he's writing a "legal memoir."

Democrats have been especially aggressive in picking apart Justice Thomas' gifts received from Crow, with Thomas previously omitting the gifts as he considered it "hospitality" and didn't believe it should be filed in the annual disclosure.

Supreme Court justices make roughly $272,000 per year in salary as of July 2023.
