Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton faces an impeachment trial after he failed to have motions to impeach him dismissed by the state's Senate.

The decision will force Paxton to face impeachment proceedings over multiple charges in the Lone Star State.

"The senators rejected two pre-trial motions from Paxton asking for the dismissal of the 16 articles of impeachment being considered during the impeachment trial. In the first motion, Motion 22, the senators voted against the motion for summary judgment of all articles of impeachment by a bipartisan vote of 24 to 6," Breitbart News reported.

"In the second, a motion to dismiss the articles of impeachment relating to acts that occurred before the last election, the senators rejected the Prior-Term 'Forgiveness' Doctrine in a bipartisan vote of 22-8," it added.

The background

"Paxton is also accused of having an affair with a woman named Laura Olson, whom Paul hired for his company. Buzbee said that Olson got the job by submitting an application," the Post Millennial reported.

Retribution brewing?

"Even before the impeachment trial of Ken Paxton began in the Texas Senate Tuesday, followers of the embattled attorney general were already planning revenge on the GOP state House members who voted to impeach him and the Republican senators who will be crucial in deciding his fate," Newsmax reported.

“'Let’s clean house!' Paxton told a Republican picnic in Collin County, Texas, referring to fellow Republican and state House Speaker Dade Phelan, who supported the House vote to impeach the attorney general," it continued.

Paxton has pleaded not guilty to the charges that involve Austin developer Nate Paul. The case claims he attempted to use taxpayer dollars in a disagreement with former staff members.

If Paxton is impeached, the Senate must vote on whether he will be barred from holding office again.

Paxton's wife, Angela, is rumored to run for her husband's position in the event that he is barred from running for his role again in 2026.

The case is expected to receive much attention as many Republicans join the state's Democrats in the high-profile impeachment proceedings.
