True extent of Biden's vacation time in office brought to light by GOP
President Joe Biden has been keeping rather a low profile ever since announcing his decision to withdraw from his re-election bid back in July.
While some might attribute his absence from D.C. to a desire to avoid stealing Kamala Harris' thunder, Biden's lack of visibility is actually nothing new, as is evidenced by new GOP charges about just how much vacation time he has enjoyed over the course of his term in office, as Breitbart reports.
Pastime president
Though it has never been a secret that Biden has enjoyed a fair number of vacations since taking the Oval Office, the true extent of his time away from the White House, as revealed this week by the Republican National Committee Research arm, may have come as something of a shock.
Taking to X on Aug. 31 to underscore just how much time the current commander in chief has spent on vacation while purported at nation's helm, the RNC offered some staggering statistics.
The post featured an image of the president and first lady enjoying the sun and sand near their Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, property and noted, “Biden spent today -- his 16th straight day on vacation -- lounging on the beach.”
In an effort to underscore the jarring nature of the situation, the post continued, “He has spent a total of 532 days (40.3% of his presidency) on vacation.”
Then, getting to what is truly the heart of the matter for many, considering that the vice president is currently engrossed in her own campaign endeavors away from D.C., the RNC asked simply, “Who's running the country?”
Stunning numbers revealed
As the New York Post suggested, the sheer volume of away days during Biden's presidency would likely shock the conscience of most everyday American workers, many of whom struggle to find any time to themselves over the course of a year.
Biden's tally of 532 vacation days since taking office fewer than four years ago amounts to a total that most U.S. employees could not dare to dream in that it would take an average worker roughly 48 years on the job to accumulate that much time off.
With Biden spending roughly 40% of his days away from the White House, his leisure time far exceeds that taken by predecessors Donald Trump, Ronald Reagan, Barack Obama, and Jimmy Carter, who spent 26%, 11%, 11%, and 5% of their terms on such breaks, respectively.
Not only that, critics suggest that the broader message Biden's approach sends to the rest of the world is not exactly one of attentiveness or strength, with former Trump administration official Mark Paoletta opining, “the image of Biden fast asleep and lying flat on his back in his chair at the beach while America and the world is on fire will define the Biden presidency.”
Paoletta went on, “Inflation has been out of control; prices still way too high' our border overrun with millions of illegal aliens committing violent crimes on our citizens; the world in a perilous state; and all Biden wants to do is go on vacation and check out – for more than 530 days.”
Not necessarily a problem
While Biden's time away may have a negative connotation for many voters, some of his political opponents do not necessarily view it as a bad thing, given the damage they believe he does while in the nation's capital.
Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (NY) joked that perhaps Biden could be of greater help to the American people by taking even more time for R & R.
“We probably would have been better off if he did even less and went on vacation more,” she quipped, expressing sentiments with which millions of Americans likely agree.
